Pakistan’s IT exports reached a new milestone in the first quarter of FY2025–26, crossing $1 billion for the first time in a single quarter, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
From July to September 2025, IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) exports rose to $1.057 billion, marking a 20% increase year-on-year from $877 million in the same period last year. The quarter also saw a record monthly high of $366 million in September 2025, the highest ever recorded in Pakistan’s history.
Policy Reforms and Global Expansion Drive Growth
The sustained rise in IT exports stems from government-backed reforms under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the State Bank of Pakistan. Key changes, such as raising the foreign currency retention limit from 35% to 50%, have allowed exporters to reinvest earnings abroad and attract more international clients.
Analysts at Topline Securities attributed the growth to exchange rate stability, expansion into Gulf and European markets, and a growing global client base. The firm projects 18–20% growth in FY2026, with the government targeting $5 billion in annual IT exports.
Industry Leaders Applaud the Achievement
Muhammad Umair Nizam, Senior Vice Chairman of P@SHA, said the growing presence of Pakistani IT firms in new markets has strengthened the country’s digital footprint. “The results speak for themselves, Pakistan’s IT industry is becoming globally competitive,” he stated.
Dr. Noman Said, CEO of SI Global Solutions, praised the role of freelancers and remote workers in maintaining this momentum. He noted their contributions to projects involving AI, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and data analytics have been “vital in sustaining export growth and earning foreign exchange.”
Freelancers and Youth Powering the Digital Economy
Freelancers continue to play a crucial role in Pakistan’s IT success. Many work across international platforms, delivering high-value projects that support families and strengthen the national economy.
Experts emphasized that skill development programs and tech education initiatives are empowering Pakistan’s youth to compete globally. These efforts are helping young professionals build sustainable online careers and further expand the country’s digital exports.
