The under-construction IT Park in Islamabad is poised to become a key force behind Pakistan’s digital transformation. Supported by a $76.3 million concessional loan from South Korea, the project aims to boost IT exports, strengthen technology transfer, and expand research and development across the country.
Located in Chak Shahzad, the facility will include a 12-story complex with two basements and ten floors, spanning almost 67,000 square meters. It will house 120 start-ups and small to medium enterprises (SMEs), along with testing labs, classrooms, an auditorium, and an industry-academia linkage centre to bridge education with industry needs.
A Ministry of IT official said the project directly supports Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Digital Pakistan vision. It seeks to create an innovation-driven ecosystem and attract foreign investors. Moreover, both Islamabad and Karachi IT Parks, financed by South Korea, reflect growing global confidence in Pakistan’s tech potential.
Although the project faced challenges such as heavy rains, import restrictions, and economic hurdles, it remains within its $76.3 million budget, aided by $12.5 million from the PSDP. Construction is expected to conclude by December 31, 2025. Once completed, the IT Park will serve as a hub for start-ups, digital entrepreneurship, and research collaboration.
With its world-class infrastructure and modern facilities, the park will create jobs, attract innovation, and boost IT exports. Ultimately, it will help Pakistan integrate more deeply into the global digital economy.
