Pakistan has successfully launched its Remote Sensing Satellite-1 (PRSS-1) from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre, marking a major step in the country’s space journey. The launch took place at 10:00 AM (GMT+8) aboard a Kuaizhou-1A rocket, with the satellite entering its intended orbit.
The launch is a collaborative effort between Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and MICROSAT China.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who attended the launch ceremony, called the achievement a significant technological breakthrough and a proud moment for Pakistan. He also highlighted the deepening China-Pakistan cooperation in space technology.
Suparco stated that PRSS-1 is expected to enhance Pakistan’s Earth observation capabilities. The satellite will play a crucial role in urban planning, environmental protection, climate monitoring, disaster response, water resource management, and precision agriculture. It will also support infrastructure monitoring, mapping of transport networks under CPEC, and geohazard risk detection.
Chairman Suparco, Muhammad Yousaf Khan, emphasised that the satellite aligns with national priorities and will contribute to sustainable development across various sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Suparco on the successful launch and thanked China for its valuable partnership. President Asif Ali Zardari also praised Pakistani scientists for the milestone, expressing pride in their expertise.
With this successful launch, Pakistan strengthens its position in space-based research and reaffirms its long-term commitment to technological advancement and regional development.
