The 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China was marked with a special ceremony held at the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
The event was graced by Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, who served as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Major General Wang Zhong, Defence Attaché, other Chinese Embassy officials, and senior officers from Pakistan’s Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation and extended his heartfelt congratulations on the PLA’s anniversary. In his remarks, he praised the PLA’s key role in safeguarding China’s national interests and its contributions to the country’s development and stability.
The Army Chief emphasised the strength and depth of the Pakistan-China relationship, describing it as “time-tested and unshakable.” He underlined that despite global uncertainties and shifting regional dynamics, the bilateral partnership remains rooted in mutual trust, strategic cooperation, and shared security objectives.
Highlighting military cooperation as a cornerstone of the broader strategic alliance, the COAS reaffirmed that the Pakistan Army and the PLA stand united as “true brothers-in-arms,” playing a vital role in maintaining peace and stability across the region.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and acknowledged Pakistan’s unwavering support in the fight against terrorism. He reiterated China’s firm commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Pakistan and deepening defence collaboration.
The ceremony underscored the enduring solidarity between the two nations, as they continue to cooperate across defence, security, and regional peace efforts.
