Pakistan has introduced a new plan to locally manufacture lithium-ion batteries as part of its National Battery Manufacturing Policy 2026–2031. The policy aims to boost domestic production, attract investment, and reduce dependence on imports.
Chaired by SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan, the initiative includes phased localization, tariff reforms, and incentives for private-sector participation. Initial manufacturing will focus on lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, with applications in electric vehicles, solar energy systems, backup power, and mobile towers.
Collaboration with international partners, including China, and guidance from the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority will ensure safety, quality, and environmental compliance. The Engineering Development Board will oversee policy implementation aligned with Pakistan’s energy security goals.
