Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US-based Sikh leader Jaspreet Singh in Islamabad and pledged a new strategy to enhance the welfare of Pakistan’s Sikh community. The plan will also improve facilities for Sikh pilgrims visiting holy sites such as Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur.
Pakistan hosts over 15,000 Sikhs and receives thousands of international pilgrims annually. The government aims to provide better access and services, including visa-free entry through the Kartarpur Corridor for Indian Sikhs. Sharif emphasized that these steps reflect Pakistan’s commitment to supporting its religious minorities while promoting cultural and religious diplomacy globally.
The announcement follows the recent visit of nearly 2,000 Sikh pilgrims from India who participated in Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary celebrations. Authorities are focusing on ensuring safe and efficient pilgrim experiences while preserving and promoting Sikh heritage sites across the country.
