Pakistan has expressed its deepest condolences to Indonesia and the Philippines after two powerful earthquakes struck both countries this week, causing heavy loss of life and widespread damage. The Foreign Office confirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the governments and peoples of Indonesia and the Philippines as they cope with the destruction.
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said Pakistan stands “in full support” of the affected nations. He offered prayers for the swift recovery of the injured and stressed that Pakistan shares the grief of the victims’ families.
According to international reports, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit near Bogo City in Cebu province of the Philippines on Tuesday night. Dozens of people lost their lives, while many more suffered injuries. Rescue teams are still searching the affected areas.
On the same day, a 6.5-magnitude tremor struck Indonesia’s East Java province. The quake caused deaths and serious destruction. Around 30 buildings, including houses, four places of worship, and a health facility, sustained major damage. Emergency teams have been mobilised to provide relief and assess the scale of the losses.
Pakistan reiterated its sympathy for both countries, calling the twin disasters a reminder of the urgent need for stronger disaster preparedness and international humanitarian assistance. Officials highlighted that Pakistan has also faced devastating earthquakes in the past and understands the suffering that such calamities bring.
By extending condolences to Indonesia and the Philippines after the earthquakes, Pakistan reaffirmed its policy of standing by friendly nations in times of crisis. The Foreign Office urged the global community to step forward with timely relief aid for the victims.
