During his 17th visit to China, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasised the growing importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0), calling it a “futuristic concept” set to enhance trade, infrastructure, and employment opportunities for Pakistan’s youth, especially in Balochistan.
The President highlighted key areas for bilateral cooperation, including agriculture, water resource management, disaster prevention, and renewable energy. Noting China’s expertise in solar, wind, and hydrogen technologies, he stressed the potential for Pakistan to benefit from these advanced solutions to achieve sustainable growth.
“I bring to China the international goodwill and the Pakistani people’s goodwill, and the assurance that we stand with China in good times and in bad times,” President Zardari told CGTN in an interview on The World Today, underscoring Pakistan’s unwavering support for China.
He further praised the bilateral relations between the two countries, describing Pakistan and China as “all-weather, ironclad brothers” with deep cultural and economic ties. President Zardari also pointed out the strategic value of Pakistan’s ports and land routes, noting that modernising them with AI and advanced technology will improve connectivity and strengthen trade.
Highlighting the broader benefits of CPEC 2.0, the President said that operational ports will create employment for local youth, increase regional trade, and ensure better economic development in Balochistan. He emphasised the importance of joint initiatives in education and healthcare, including sending Pakistani nurses to China and implementing remote training programs, leveraging modern digital technologies for global cooperation.
President Zardari also highlighted China’s success in renewable energy and the future potential of hydrogen as a clean fuel. He shared his excitement over high-speed train technology, noting its potential to transform travel and interaction between cities in Pakistan.
Reflecting on the historical ties between the two nations, the President mentioned Pakistan’s consistent support for China on the global stage, highlighting past diplomatic milestones such as facilitating Henry Kissinger’s visit to China. He emphasised that mutual respect and goodwill between the countries will continue to guide future collaborations in trade, technology, and socio-economic development.
