The Gwadar Development Authority has successfully stabilized the water situation in Gwadar after completing major infrastructure upgrades worth Rs 11 billion. Authorities confirmed that restoration of the transmission line from Shadi Kaur Dam, activation of desalination facilities, and expansion of the city’s pipeline network have significantly improved daily water supply. Several pumping stations and newly built storage tanks are now fully operational.
After the provincial government reassigned water supply responsibilities in August 2025, GDA faced serious operational and logistical challenges. Emergency water transportation from Mirani Dam was arranged while damaged pipelines were repaired and modern systems installed. The restored Shadi Kaur line is now supplying nearly two million gallons per day, benefiting residential areas, nearby communities, and public institutions.
Officials also highlighted coordination with the Gwadar Port Authority to reactivate a major desalination plant serving the Old Town. More than 15,000 household connections have been shifted to the upgraded network, and a structured billing system is being introduced. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, aiming to ensure long-term and sustainable water management in Gwadar.
