Sales of Chinese solar systems are rising rapidly in Gwadar. The surge comes as residents look for relief from long power outages.
The increase has been visible for over a month. Local shopkeepers report strong demand during March and April. The trend is also boosting business activity in the city.
At Dashti Market, a major electronics hub, sales have grown sharply. One shopkeeper said sales increased by around 60 percent. Revenue has also improved during this period.
Chinese brands are leading the market. They are popular because they offer good quality at lower prices. Compared to other foreign brands, they are more affordable.
Another trader said sales were low earlier in the year. In January and February, monthly sales ranged between Rs 0.2 to 0.3 million. By March and mid-April, sales reached around Rs 1 million.
Shopkeepers say supply is not an issue. Chinese solar panels, batteries, and kits are widely available. This steady supply supports continued growth in demand.
Residents are also shifting towards solar energy. Many households now prefer off-grid systems. This helps them avoid unreliable electricity supply.
A local shopkeeper at Airport Road Market said solar energy reduces dependence on the grid. It also cuts monthly electricity bills.
In the past, such equipment was not easily available in Gwadar. However, awareness has increased in recent years. Government and Chinese support has played a key role.
An official from the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce said demand is rising fast. Both homes and businesses are adopting solar solutions.
Consumers also support this shift. One buyer said frequent power outages forced him to go solar. He called it the only reliable solution.
A fisherman from the coastal area shared a similar view. He said solar systems have solved electricity problems. He added that daily life has become easier.
China has also contributed through donations. In 2021, around 4,000 solar systems and LED lights were provided. These projects improved energy access in many areas.
Solar systems have reached dozens of regions in Gwadar. Public spaces and streets are also being powered by solar energy.
China Communications Construction Company helped install solar street lights. The project was carried out with the Chinese Consulate in Karachi.
A total of 73 solar-powered lights were installed. These lights cover busy public areas across the city.
Pakistan is also planning local solar production. The government is working with Chinese firms to manufacture panels. This will reduce reliance on imports.
A long-term policy has also been prepared. It aims to expand solar energy capacity across the country by 2030.
Interest from investors is also growing. Jinko Solar has shown interest in building a solar park in Gwadar. The project may be set up in the North Free Zone.
Overall, the shift to solar energy is accelerating. It offers relief from the power crisis and supports economic activity. Gwadar is emerging as a key hub for solar adoption in Pakistan.
