At the United Nations, China called for an immediate end to all unilateral coercive measures (UCMs), describing them as violations of international law and threats to global stability.
Delivering a joint statement on behalf of 28 member states, Chinese envoy Fu Cong, the Permanent Representative to the UN, said UCMs undermine the foundations of multilateralism, disrupt global order, and harm developing countries. He urged Western nations to respect the UN Charter and international law, and to lift such measures completely and unconditionally.
Fu stressed that unilateral sanctions violate the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference, worsening economic hardships for vulnerable states. He reminded members that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development explicitly opposes unilateral trade, economic, or financial restrictions inconsistent with international law.
The envoy emphasised that the world needs “solidarity and unity, not confrontation and division,” to address shared challenges and protect human rights globally. China and its partner nations reaffirmed their opposition to UCMs and called on the UN system and international organisations to support affected countries in mitigating their impact.
