The banks of the Kabul River in Peshawar recently came alive with the vibrant colors of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. The event celebrated the “iron-clad” friendship between Pakistan and China, marking the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
The festival was organized by the China Window Peshawar the festival and drew a massive crowd. Attendees included government officials, athletes, cultural performers, and members of both the local and Chinese communities.
Strengthening Unbreakable Bonds
Malik Adil Iqbal, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of KP on Culture, Tourism, and Archeology, praised the deep connection between the two nations. He emphasized that the Pakistan-China friendship has remained rock-solid and unbreakable for decades. Adding further he said: “This event projects a positive image of our province to the world and will help attract future tourism,” Iqbal noted.
Drums, Boats, and Cultural Magic
The festival successfully transformed the Kabul River into a lively arena of cultural expression. More than 100 racers divided into teams competed in the dragon boat races.
Local businessman Masood Khan described the event as a captivating spectacle. He noted that the rhythmic movement of the boats perfectly highlighted the beauty of cultural exchange.
Another participant, Sohail Ahmed, shared the excitement of the crowd. He mentioned how the boats moved to the powerful beat of drums, creating a thrilling and inspiring scene for spectators.
Looking to the Future
Amjad Aziz Malik, Administrator of China Window, highlighted the deeper meaning behind the races. He stated that the festival did more than just introduce an ancient Chinese tradition to Pakistan—it actively brought the people of both nations closer together.
Moving forward, organizers plan to host similar cultural festivals to continually deepen the lasting friendship between Pakistan and China.
