A formal reception took place in Beijing to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The event brought together diplomats, officials, and representatives from member and partner countries.
China Calls for Deeper Regional Cooperation
During the event, Wang Yi highlighted the organisation’s development over the past quarter-century. He stated that member countries have advanced cooperation through principles of equality and mutual respect.
Moreover, he noted joint efforts to address terrorism, separatism, and extremism while supporting regional stability and opposing external interference.
Focus on Development and Multilateral Engagement
In addition, Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to high-quality development and described the SCO as an important platform in regional diplomacy. Therefore, Beijing remains prepared to expand cooperation and share development opportunities with fellow member states.
SCO Leadership Highlights Long-Term Vision
Meanwhile, Nurlan Yermekbayev described the anniversary as an important milestone for the organisation. He emphasized that the SCO has grown from the “Shanghai Five” into one of the world’s largest transregional groupings.
Furthermore, he underlined the importance of the “Shanghai Spirit,” which promotes mutual trust, consultation, and cooperation among member states.
Future Cooperation Remains a Priority
Referring to future goals, SCO leadership highlighted the Development Strategy adopted in 2025 to strengthen practical cooperation. As a result, member states aim to expand collaboration across economic development, security, and social progress.
Exhibitions and Cultural Activities Featured
The event also included discussions on upcoming high-level meetings under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Additionally, guests attended a photo exhibition prepared with Xinhua showcasing SCO development, while presentations highlighted agricultural exchanges and emerging technologies, including Chinese robotics.
