China has provided a $2 million reproductive health and family planning package to Pakistan to strengthen maternal, newborn, and reproductive healthcare services in underserved areas.
The assistance is expected to benefit more than 300,000 women and girls by improving access to essential healthcare supplies, medical equipment, and trained healthcare support.
The donation reflects growing China-Pakistan healthcare cooperation under the framework of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the South-South Cooperation Programme.
Medical Supplies Handed Over in Islamabad
The equipment was formally handed over to Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination during a ceremony held at the Rural Health Centre (RHC) Tarlai in Islamabad.
Minister of State for National Health Services Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharat received the donation from Zhang Datuo.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the United Nations Population Fund, including Deputy Representative Dr. Gulnara Kadyrkulova, along with senior Pakistani health officials.
Healthcare Support for 10 Districts
The Chinese assistance package includes reproductive health kits, midwifery equipment, two-rod contraceptive implants, clean delivery kits, and newborn baby kits.
These supplies will be distributed across 10 districts facing healthcare challenges, including:
- Kech, Loralai, and Khuzdar in Balochistan
- Hyderabad in Sindh
- Rahim Yar Khan and Kasur in Punjab
- Charsadda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Gilgit in Gilgit-Baltistan
- Kotli in Azad Jammu and Kashmir
The initiative aims to expand access to quality reproductive healthcare services in remote and vulnerable communities.
Training for Healthcare Workers
Besides providing medical supplies, the programme includes specialized training for healthcare professionals.
The training will focus on improving reproductive health services, strengthening maternal care practices, and increasing access to modern family planning solutions.
Moreover, better-trained medical staff and improved facilities are expected to contribute to safer childbirth and improved health outcomes.
Strengthening China-Pakistan Health Cooperation
The donation highlights China’s continued support for Pakistan’s healthcare sector through international development partnerships.
Under the Global Development Initiative, both countries are expanding cooperation in areas including public health, social development, and community welfare.
The latest assistance is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s maternal and newborn healthcare system while providing essential services to communities that need them most.
