China Southern Airlines has launched a new direct passenger route from Urumqi to Frankfurt, marking the first direct international air connection between northwest Xinjiang and Germany.
Improved Connectivity to Europe
Previously, passengers traveling from Xinjiang to Europe had to transit through major eastern hubs such as Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou. However, the new route significantly reduces travel time and improves convenience for international travelers.
Expansion of International Routes
In addition, Xinjiang’s aviation network continues to expand rapidly. As of April 2026, Urumqi has launched more than 30 international passenger routes, strengthening its role as a regional air transport hub.
Boost to Regional Accessibility
Furthermore, the new connection reflects broader efforts to enhance Xinjiang’s global accessibility. As a result, the region is becoming increasingly integrated into international travel and trade networks.
