Diplomats, academics, and policy experts gathered at a seminar celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The event focused on Xinjiang’s socio-economic development and its growing role in regional connectivity under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Chinese Ambassador Highlights Xinjiang’s Progress
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong said Xinjiang’s industrial growth and social stability provide valuable opportunities for Pakistan to strengthen border trade and regional connectivity.
He described Xinjiang as experiencing its strongest period of development and prosperity. He also shared observations from visits to Urumqi, Kashgar, and Id Kah Mosque, highlighting inter-ethnic harmony and peaceful coexistence.
Economic Growth and Regional Connectivity
Speakers highlighted Xinjiang’s major economic achievements, including strong GDP growth, expanding foreign trade, rising tourism, and rapid renewable energy development.
Officials noted that upgraded connectivity through the Karakoram Highway can improve trade flows between Pakistan, China, and Central Asia. They added that Xinjiang’s geographic position strengthens its role as a gateway for regional commerce.
Focus on Education and High-Tech Cooperation
Participants also discussed academic cooperation and technology exchange between the two countries. Chinese scholarship programs and educational partnerships were described as important tools for building skilled human resources in Pakistan.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on China Affairs Zafar Uddin Mahmood said the next stage of bilateral cooperation should focus on high-tech industries and sustainable industrialisation.
Experts Discuss Inclusive Development
Academic and defence experts highlighted Xinjiang’s development model, particularly its focus on ethnic harmony, poverty reduction, and green energy expansion. Speakers described these areas as useful examples for inclusive economic growth and social stability.
Strengthening Pakistan-China Partnership
The seminar concluded with calls for deeper economic, educational, and infrastructure cooperation between Pakistan and China. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
