Spain and China held their first Green Energy Forum Monday in Madrid, bringing together roughly 300 participants from governments, industry associations, and leading energy firms. The forum highlighted opportunities to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy and support the global shift toward clean energy.
Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu praised Spain’s growth in renewable energy over the past two decades, noting that clean energy now forms a central part of the country’s energy strategy. He expressed hope that the forum would create fresh opportunities for Spain-China collaboration and help companies explore new development avenues.
Jaime Peris, special representative of Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism, emphasized China’s critical role in zero-carbon industries and global energy markets. He stated that the forum reflects both nations’ commitment to practical cooperation and maximizing their shared potential during a pivotal stage of the global energy transition.
Jose Donoso, director general of the Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF), highlighted the complementary strengths of Spain and China in solar energy. Spain has pioneered photovoltaic technology in Europe, while China’s solar development has become globally competitive through major investments and innovation.
Roundtable discussions focused on AI-powered energy systems, grid security, green finance, and investment opportunities. Participants shared expertise, explored new collaboration areas, and reinforced Spain-China ties in building a greener, sustainable future.
