China and Spain reaffirmed their long-standing economic partnership by hosting a major Trade and Investment Matching Conference in Madrid on Thursday, celebrating 20 years of their comprehensive strategic partnership. The event brought together over 300 representatives from both countries’ business communities to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration.
Jointly organised by China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and Spain’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business, the conference underscored both nations’ shared commitment to free trade amid growing global protectionism.
Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Ling Ji highlighted that the conference was a practical step to implement the consensus reached by the two nations’ leaders. He stressed that hosting such a large-scale event during turbulent global economic times reflected both countries’ confidence in open and fair trade. Ling also announced that China would increase imports of Spanish agricultural and food products, boost cross-border e-commerce, and encourage two-way investment in emerging sectors.
Spanish Secretary of State for Trade Maria Amparo López Senovilla praised the robust progress in bilateral trade and reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in renewable energy, the digital economy, and other innovation-driven industries. She also invited Chinese businesses to invest in Spain, citing the country’s stable economy and favourable business environment.
The event concluded with sector-specific discussions on agriculture, the green economy, advanced manufacturing, and services. Both sides signed nine trade and investment cooperation agreements, signalling a new phase of dynamic and mutually beneficial economic relations.
