PM Meets Amir of Qatar
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid an official visit to Doha to express solidarity with Qatar in the wake of Israel’s September 9 airstrike on its capital.
During his meeting with Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the attack as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law. He conveyed sympathies over the loss of lives, prayed for the recovery of the injured, and assured Pakistan’s full support to the Qatari leadership and people.
Shared Bonds and Regional Peace
Sharif reaffirmed the historic fraternal ties between Pakistan and Qatar, emphasising that both countries have always stood by each other. He said Israel’s aggression not only threatened Qatar’s security but also endangered broader regional stability, underscoring the need for unity in the Muslim world. The Prime Minister also lauded Qatar’s constructive role in efforts to bring peace to Gaza.
Diplomatic Steps and OIC Coordination
At Qatar’s request, Pakistan moved for an emergency session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to discuss the Israeli strikes. Sharif also welcomed Qatar’s decision to convene an Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha on September 15, confirming Pakistan’s readiness to support the initiative under the OIC framework.
The Amir thanked the Prime Minister for his timely visit, and both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination for regional peace and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
