The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (Punjab Board of Investment and Trade) has signed a $15 million agreement with a Chinese energy technology company to establish a dry battery manufacturing plant in Punjab. The project strengthens industrial cooperation between Pakistan and China.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during a formal ceremony in Punjab. PBIT CEO Zeeshan Shabbir Rana and Hu Ge, representing Dongjin Power Tech, signed the agreement.
Project Location and Production Focus
The planned facility will be established in one of Punjab’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs). It will focus on producing dry batteries for both consumer and industrial applications.
In addition, the plant aims to strengthen local manufacturing capacity. It will also reduce dependence on imported batteries in the domestic market.
Boost to Supply Chains and Energy Sector
The project is expected to support supply chains for electronic devices and energy storage systems. As demand for battery-powered solutions grows, the facility will play an important industrial role.
Moreover, officials believe the plant will improve Pakistan’s position in the regional manufacturing sector.
Investment, Jobs, and Technology Transfer
The investment is projected to generate new employment opportunities in Punjab. It will also support skill development in advanced manufacturing.
Furthermore, the project includes technology transfer from Chinese partners. This aligns with Pakistan’s broader industrialization strategy under SEZ development frameworks.
Strengthening Industrial Cooperation
The agreement reflects growing economic cooperation between Pakistan and China. It also highlights increasing interest in joint ventures within the energy and manufacturing sectors.
As a result, such investments are expected to accelerate industrial growth and enhance production capabilities in Pakistan.
