Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for its remarkable role in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said the “valiant Shaheens of PAF remain an impregnable shield in the defence of our motherland.”
During his meeting with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu at the PM Office, Shehbaz praised the Air Force’s legacy of courage, professionalism, and its decisive contributions during pivotal moments in the nation’s history.
Review of Defence Matters
Both leaders discussed professional matters relating to aerial defence and reiterated their resolve to further strengthen Pakistan’s air power. The Prime Minister assured continued government support for enhancing operational capacity, advanced training, and modern equipment for the PAF.
Combat Successes Against India
Reflecting on PAF’s combat achievements, Shehbaz highlighted its historic victories in downing enemy aircraft. This year’s Pakistan-India conflict in May 2025 was cited as a testament to PAF’s strength, when Pakistan shot down six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft.
The escalation began after India blamed Pakistan for an attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which Islamabad firmly rejected. In retaliation, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, shut down diplomatic ties, and launched missile strikes on Pakistani cities and AJK.
Pakistan swiftly responded with Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, damaging key Indian military installations and forcing India into a ceasefire after international mediation led by the United States.
