Pakistan’s exports of knitted and crocheted garments, such as jerseys, pullovers, cardigans, and waistcoats, to China recorded an 11% growth in the first five months of 2025, rising to $4.30 million from $3.87 million in the same period last year, according to data released by China Customs.
This upward trend signals Pakistan’s strengthening foothold in China’s competitive apparel market, particularly in mid-range and winterwear categories. Industry experts link the growth to the country’s expanding production capabilities in cotton-blended knitwear and its improved adherence to Chinese quality and certification standards.
Lahore-based trade expert Mohammad Azhar noted that Pakistani manufacturers have modernized their production facilities, incorporating advanced dyeing and finishing processes. These enhancements have enabled them to meet Chinese consumers’ expectations for comfort and durability in winter garments.
According to market analysts, the majority of Pakistani knitwear exports enter China through eastern coastal regions, with Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces accounting for the highest volumes. Jiangsu alone imported over $2.79 million worth of products in the first five months of 2025. Much of the demand is driven by private-label brands and e-commerce platforms seeking affordable alternatives to local manufacturing.
Ghulam Qadir, Pakistan’s Trade and Investment Counsellor in China, emphasized that Pakistan enjoys zero-tariff benefits under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA-II), which enhances its competitiveness over other regional exporters. However, he stressed the importance of diversifying product lines and investing in design innovation to maintain growth.
Azhar also pointed out a rising preference in China for eco-friendly and sustainable knitwear. He suggested that if Pakistani exporters align with China’s green textile standards and invest in recycled yarn technologies, they could gain access to premium segments of the market.
With the winter season approaching, experts anticipate continued momentum for Pakistan’s knitwear exports in the second half of 2025.
