Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their resolve on Monday to deepen parliamentary cooperation, strengthen defence collaboration, and jointly pursue peace and prosperity across the region.
Trilateral Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad
The consensus emerged during the Third Trilateral Speakers’ Conference held at Parliament House, Islamabad. The session was chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and attended by Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, alongside high-level parliamentary delegations from all three nations.
In his welcome address, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq received Turkish Speaker Numan Kurtulmus and Azerbaijani Speaker Sahiba Gafarova with warmth. He said their participation symbolised an enduring friendship among the brotherly nations.
Shared Vision for Peace and Prosperity
Sadiq stated that the conference’s theme, “Strengthening Fraternal Relations Through Parliamentary Cooperation for Regional Peace and Prosperity”, reflected their shared vision for sustainable development and political stability.
He noted that the partnership between Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan was based not only on government ties but also on the aspirations of their people. Moreover, he warned that the current global order was under immense strain due to repeated violations of sovereignty and human rights.
Pakistan’s Regional and Global Commitments
Condemning ongoing atrocities in Palestine and human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and sovereignty.
He thanked Türkiye, Azerbaijan, China, and Saudi Arabia for supporting Pakistan’s stance on key issues. Furthermore, he stressed that Pakistan remained steadfast in its fight against terrorism. Despite provocations from across the Afghan border, Pakistan’s armed forces, he said, responded with precision and restraint.
Call for Climate Justice
Turning to environmental challenges, Sadiq urged the world to pursue “climate justice.” He highlighted that Pakistan is among the nations most affected by climate change despite contributing minimally to global emissions. Therefore, he called for stronger international cooperation to combat the worsening crisis.
Support and Solidarity from Türkiye and Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani Speaker Sahiba Gafarova appreciated Pakistan’s unwavering support on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. She called for deeper coordination between parliamentary friendship groups and committees to advance shared goals.
Turkish Speaker Numan Kurtulmus condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and voiced strong support for Pakistan’s position on Kashmir. He said the time had come for the three nations to expand cooperation in defence, trade, and diplomacy to secure lasting regional peace and prosperity.
Joint Commitment to Cooperation
The conference concluded with a joint declaration reaffirming the three nations’ commitment to strengthening trilateral parliamentary ties. The leaders agreed that continued collaboration would serve as a cornerstone for regional stability, mutual respect, and long-term development.
