Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye are expected to sign a major defence agreement during high-level talks in Jeddah on Thursday as regional tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.
According to reports, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are scheduled to hold a trilateral meeting later in the day.
At the time of publication, the agreement has not yet been signed. Officials are expected to discuss defence cooperation and regional security, but the outcome of the meeting remains pending.
PM Shehbaz Leads High-Level Delegation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia for an official visit from 6–8 August 2026.
He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir, and other senior ministers.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
Talks Focus on Strategic Cooperation
The discussions are expected to strengthen Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations and expand cooperation in defence, security, and diplomacy.
Moreover, the leaders are likely to review regional and international developments while enhancing coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Officials have described the visit as another step toward deepening the longstanding partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh.
Regional Tensions Shape Agenda
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.
In addition, concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz are expected to feature prominently during the discussions.
Pakistan has reiterated its support for diplomatic solutions and peaceful dialogue to reduce regional tensions.
Pakistan Supports Regional Diplomacy
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi described the visit as highly significant for Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations.
Furthermore, he said the visit would provide fresh momentum to the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Pakistan has also welcomed Oman’s mediation efforts and expressed hope that continued diplomatic engagement will help resolve regional disputes peacefully.
Defence Agreement Awaited
If finalized, the proposed agreement could mark a significant expansion of defence cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye.
However, officials have not yet announced the details of the expected pact. Further information is likely to emerge after the leaders conclude their meeting.
