Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday approved a new policy to strengthen Pakistan’s Halal meat export sector. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting in Islamabad, where the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a coordinated strategy to increase exports and meet global standards.
He instructed the relevant committees to develop a detailed three-year plan focusing on improving meat production, cold storage, hygiene, and international certification of slaughterhouses. “By following global best practices, Pakistan can compete effectively in the Halal meat market worldwide,” he said.
Officials highlighted that Pakistan currently produces six million metric tons of Halal meat annually, sufficient to meet domestic needs and leave surplus for export. The strategy aims to boost quality, enhance packaging, and promote compliance with international standards, ensuring that Pakistani Halal meat reaches new markets across Muslim and non-Muslim countries.
