Pakistan has expressed its resolve to broaden cooperation with Italy in the field of archaeology, focusing on research, preservation, and knowledge sharing. Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi conveyed this message during a ceremony in Rome commemorating seven decades of Italian archaeological work in Pakistan.
Addressing scholars and cultural experts, the minister said archaeology serves as a bridge between civilizations and plays a vital role in protecting shared human history. He stressed that Pakistan values long-term partnerships that contribute to scientific research, education, and heritage conservation.
The Italian Archaeological Mission, active in Pakistan since the mid-20th century, has contributed extensively to the study of ancient civilizations, particularly in the Swat region. Its work has supported excavation, site protection, and academic training over generations.
The anniversary event also highlighted future collaboration in specialized research areas, including environmental archaeology and historical inscriptions. Participation by diplomats, researchers, and institutions from both countries reflected the depth of Pakistan–Italy cultural and scholarly relations.
