The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has announced a 200-meter extension of the Surbandar Fishing Jetty breakwater to protect coastal infrastructure from sea erosion and improve the jetty’s operational lifespan.
GDA Director General Moin-ur-Rehman Khan shared the plan during an inspection visit, stating that the extension will help safeguard the fishing jetty and surrounding settlement from growing marine threats while supporting the local fisheries-based economy.
Officials reviewed damage caused by seawater to the existing breakwater and access road, and discussed preventive measures to avoid further deterioration. The project is expected to enhance structural durability and ensure uninterrupted fishing activities.
During the visit, the GDA chief also inspected repair and expansion work on the Coastal Highway–Surbandar link road and the floating jetty. He directed engineers to use high-quality, marine-resistant materials and complete projects within approved timelines.
Emphasizing sustainability, Khan instructed authorities to develop a self-financing business model for the jetty to cover maintenance and operational costs. He said facilities at Surbandar and Pishukan have already improved boat anchoring, fish handling, and market access across the coastal belt.
