Pakistan’s fisheries exports to China surged past $149 million in the first half of FY25-26, representing nearly 60% of total seafood exports, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said on Friday. Rising Chinese demand for frozen fish, shrimp, and other seafood products fueled this growth.
Overall fisheries exports for the period reached $253 million, with more than 122,000 metric tons shipped globally. China remained the top export market, followed by Thailand, while shrimp and prawns generated over $40 million and cuttlefish earned $36 million, most of which went to China.
Chaudhry emphasized the fisheries sector’s role in employment generation and foreign exchange earnings. The government is working to improve quality standards, cold-chain facilities, and compliance with regulations to further strengthen exports, particularly to China, under bilateral and regional trade frameworks.
