Islamabad and Baku are moving toward stronger economic and defence cooperation. The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, met a high-level delegation from the Azerbaijan Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce & Industry (APJCCI) led by Chairman Zafar Bakhtawari at the Azerbaijan Embassy.
They discussed ongoing efforts and new initiatives to boost trade, investment, and business cooperation between the two nations. Ambassador Farhadov noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had acknowledged APJCCI’s efforts to promote bilateral trade during his recent visit to Baku.
In response, Bakhtawari praised Farhadov’s contributions to enhancing ties and recommended him for Pakistan’s highest civil award. The APJCCI delegation also reported on its September visit to Baku, where meetings with government institutions, businesses, and private companies opened new avenues for collaboration.
The Chamber announced the launch of its official website and revealed plans to organise the 7th Islamabad Expo 2025 on December 6–7 at the Pak-China Friendship Centre. Around ten Azerbaijani companies are expected to participate. Additionally, APJCCI intends to host the Azerbaijan–Pakistan Business Forum next year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev held a high-level meeting in Baku during Azerbaijan’s 50th Victory Day celebrations. They agreed to strengthen cooperation in defence, energy, trade, politics, and connectivity. Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir also attended the talks.
Sharif congratulated Azerbaijan on its Karabakh victory and described it as a “beacon of hope” for the people of Kashmir and Palestine. President Aliyev accepted Sharif’s invitation to visit Islamabad again and praised Pakistan’s support in regional stability and development.
This year, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have expanded their collaboration through multiple agreements, high-level visits, and initiatives such as the $2 billion Azerbaijani investment in Pakistan. Earlier, Pakistan signed a contract to supply JF-17 Block III fighter jets to Azerbaijan, further strengthening defence ties.
The nations continue to cooperate closely in regional and international forums, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Economic Cooperation Organisation, and United Nations, reflecting their long-standing fraternal relationship.
