Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s position during his address at the United Nations High-Level International Conference on Palestine in New York.
Dar underscored the 75-year struggle of the Palestinian people who have faced occupation, displacement, and denial of their basic rights. He condemned Israel’s relentless military campaign in Gaza, noting that the killing of over 58,000 Palestinians is a blatant violation of international law, United Nations resolutions, and International Court of Justice rulings.
He called for an unconditional and immediate ceasefire, alongside full humanitarian access to Gaza. Dar emphasized the need for life-saving food, medicines, and the protection of humanitarian workers to address the worsening crisis, which directly impacts efforts toward establishing an independent Palestinian state.
In an interview, Dar praised an upcoming UN-led peace initiative co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, calling it a critical step toward the recognition of an independent Palestinian state. He said Pakistan stands firmly behind the initiative and remains committed to long-term peace in the region.
Highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, Dar mentioned aid sent to Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. He reiterated that Pakistan is ready to assist in reconstruction efforts, further strengthening its support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
He also referenced Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements, including his recent chairing of a UN Security Council debate on Palestine. Dar noted that Pakistan consistently raises its voice for Palestine and Kashmir across all international forums, championing the rights of oppressed peoples and supporting the realization of an independent Palestinian state.
Concluding, Dar criticized the lack of global accountability regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza. He reaffirmed that both he and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have been vocal in demanding justice and a peaceful resolution grounded in international law, which includes the formation of an independent Palestinian state.
