The 67th Gwadar Day was celebrated on Monday with patriotic fervour, commemorating the city’s historic accession to Pakistan in 1958 after 174 years under the Sultanate of Oman. The ceremony at Dimi Zar Flag Post highlighted the city’s journey from a remote settlement to a strategically important port at the heart of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Major General Habib Nawaz, General Officer Commanding 44 Division, attended as chief guest, while naval guards hoisted the national flag, echoing the historic 1958 flag-raising by Lt. Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey. Community representatives, teachers, and students from local schools shared speeches celebrating Gwadar’s cultural heritage, maritime identity, and economic promise.
Senior officials from the Pakistan Army, Navy, local administration, and educational institutions emphasized Gwadar’s strategic rise as a pillar of CPEC, hosting multi-billion-dollar infrastructure projects including port expansions, free zones, expressways, logistics corridors, and a new airport. The city now connects Pakistan to Western China, Central Asia, and the Middle East, enhancing regional trade and investment.
