The government has approved the purchase of a new helicopter worth around Rs. 5 billion for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project, citing operational and security requirements.
Authorities cleared the proposal as part of a revised project cost estimated at Rs. 485 billion.
Proposal Forwarded for Final Approval
The revised proposal received approval from the Central Development Working Party.
After the clearance, officials forwarded the project to Executive Committee of the National Economic Council for final consideration.
Concerns Raised Over Project Delays
During the review process, officials also expressed concern over delays in updating the project’s cost estimates.
According to officials, the prolonged delays affected financial planning and increased overall project costs.
Strategic Importance of Diamer-Bhasha Dam
The Diamer-Bhasha Dam project remains one of Pakistan’s major infrastructure and hydropower initiatives. In addition, the project is expected to improve water storage capacity, support irrigation needs, and increase electricity generation.
Once completed, the dam will play an important role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy and water security.
