The Chinese Embassy in Britain has sharply criticised what it described as “erroneous” and “irresponsible” remarks by the Group of Seven (G7) nations regarding Hong Kong, calling them a blatant interference in China’s internal affairs.
In a statement issued Saturday, a spokesperson for the embassy condemned the G7, including the United Kingdom, for criticising recent law enforcement actions by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) police. The remarks followed G7 comments on Friday about arrest warrants issued on July 25 for 19 fugitives accused of anti-China activities.
The spokesperson reaffirmed Beijing’s “firm support” for the Hong Kong SAR government and police in carrying out their duties per the law. They accused certain Western countries of double standards and hypocrisy on issues of human rights and the rule of law.
“Their interference will only strengthen Hong Kong’s determination to enforce the law, punish crime, and safeguard governance under the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ framework,” the spokesperson said.
The embassy urged relevant nations to “stop fabricating excuses to shield criminals” and to end meddling in matters that China considers purely domestic.
