Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Italy and Switzerland from October 7 to 12, according to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry. The trip, at the invitation of Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote practical solutions in trade, technology, culture, and global affairs.
In Italy, Wang Yi will co-chair the 12th Joint Meeting of the China–Italy Government Committee. The meeting will review progress under the three-year action plan agreed earlier this year during Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s visit to Beijing. Key discussions are expected to focus on automotive technology, smart infrastructure, renewable energy, and enhancing overall trade and investment cooperation.
Following his visit to Rome, Wang Yi will travel to Switzerland to lead the 4th round of the China–Switzerland Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue. Talks are likely to cover expanding collaboration in finance, innovation, green development, and multilateral initiatives under platforms such as the United Nations (UN) and World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Diplomatic observers highlight that Wang Yi’s European tour signals China’s commitment to maintaining consistent engagement with key European partners amid evolving geopolitical dynamics. The visit underscores China’s efforts to strengthen ties with Italy, a major EU partner, and Switzerland, a hub for finance and multilateral diplomacy.
Analysts also note that frequent high-level interactions help address political hesitations in Europe, promote practical cooperation, and leverage China-Europe collaboration to tackle global challenges, including economic uncertainties and geopolitical conflicts. The visit is part of China’s broader strategy to deepen pragmatic ties and foster long-term stability and mutual benefits across the continent.
