Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met Chen Xiaojiang, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, on Tuesday. Both sides agreed to expand agricultural cooperation between Punjab and Xinjiang.
The partnership will focus on agriculture, irrigation, livestock and modern farming technologies. Moreover, the two sides discussed using Chinese technology and tested seeds to improve agricultural productivity.
Focus on Modern Agricultural Technology
The two sides discussed several technologies that could improve farming in Punjab. These include advanced aerial vehicles, modern water-levelling techniques and digital crop-monitoring systems.
In addition, officials explored cooperation in agricultural mechanisation and irrigation. These measures could help farmers improve efficiency and manage water resources more effectively.
Cooperation in Irrigation and Livestock
Maryam Nawaz offered cooperation in agricultural mechanisation and water-efficient irrigation. She also highlighted opportunities to expand collaboration in livestock development.
Furthermore, both sides agreed to explore the use of tested Chinese seeds. The initiative aims to improve crop productivity and support modern farming practices.
Punjab’s Agricultural Importance
Maryam Nawaz highlighted Punjab’s central role in Pakistan’s agricultural economy. She said the province leads the country in agricultural production.
Punjab plays a major role in meeting national requirements for wheat, maize, sugarcane and rice. Therefore, improved technology and efficient farming methods could have a wider impact on Pakistan’s food production.
Strengthening People-to-People Exchanges
The meeting also stressed greater exchanges between Punjab and China. Both sides agreed to promote delegations and strengthen people-to-people contacts.
Meanwhile, the discussions covered broader issues, including development, regional stability and enhanced cooperation.
Deepening Punjab-China Partnership
The meeting reflects growing cooperation between Punjab and China in agriculture and rural development. Both sides aim to combine Chinese technological expertise with Punjab’s agricultural potential.
