China Slams US Over Mexico Semiconductor Remarks, following recent comments by Mark Johnson, chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Mexico. Johnson stated that Washington “will not tolerate dependence on countries like China” in critical sectors such as semiconductors.
In response, the Chinese Embassy in Mexico issued a strong statement on Wednesday, arguing that Washington’s remarks reveal an attempt to impose geopolitical competition on others. It accused the US of using Mexico as a tool in supply chain politics rather than genuinely supporting its industrial development.
The embassy described the stance as trade bullying and protectionism, stressing that Washington often brands other nations’ progress as “dependence” to justify coercive tactics. Such practices, it warned, undermine global trade rules, harm the interests of the Global South, including Mexico, and erode U.S. credibility.
China reaffirmed its commitment to multipolarity, inclusive globalisation, and opposition to economic coercion. The embassy further warned that U.S. attempts to obstruct cooperation would ultimately fail, likening them to “a mantis trying to stop a chariot.” It urged Washington to abandon zero-sum thinking and respect the international order.
