Beijing hosted the 28th Sub-committee Meeting on China-Russia Economic and Trade Cooperation, co-chaired by China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and Russia’s Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov. The forum, a part of the regular government-to-government dialogue, reviewed progress and outlined fresh priorities for expanding bilateral trade.
Wang emphasised that under the guidance of both heads of state, China-Russia economic relations have advanced steadily. He highlighted China’s readiness to boost trade in goods and services, promote cooperation in emerging sectors such as the digital economy and e-commerce, and strengthen regional and sub-national trade exchanges. He also reiterated Beijing’s support for safeguarding the global multilateral trade system with the WTO at its core.
Reshetnikov underscored Russia’s commitment to sustaining stable trade growth with China. He noted that Moscow aims to expand exports of high-quality Russian products through cross-border e-commerce while inviting greater Chinese investment. He further stressed Russia’s willingness to deepen collaboration within platforms like BRICS, the SCO, and the G20.
Both sides reaffirmed their status as each other’s key trade partners, acknowledging that mutually beneficial cooperation has improved the welfare of both peoples. They agreed to strengthen trade structure by lifting the share of high-tech products, fostering new forms of e-commerce, and supporting innovative industries.
The meeting once again showcased China and Russia’s growing role as a model for building new-type international relations, while setting the stage for deeper, more diversified economic cooperation in the years ahead.
