China has announced its intention to negotiate new investment and trade agreements with the European Union (EU) to strengthen bilateral economic relations and open new opportunities for cooperation, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM)
MOFCOM spokesperson He Yadong highlighted that China recognizes the EU’s growing efforts to diversify its export markets and sees the potential for mutually beneficial agreements. “This initiative reflects China’s commitment to creating stronger economic ties and providing a supportive environment for investment and trade,” He said.
He added that China continues to implement policies aimed at greater market openness and alignment with international trade standards. These measures are designed to enhance transparency, improve regulatory frameworks, and make trade and investment more predictable and attractive for international partners.
He also emphasized that China and the EU share broad common interests in sectors such as trade, investment, technology, and sustainable development. “By exploring various trade and investment agreements, including possible investment pacts, we aim to boost market access and foster long-term cooperation between China and the EU,” He explained.
The announcement follows remarks by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his meeting with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna in Beijing, where he expressed China’s willingness to discuss potential free trade agreements with the EU. Experts note that these initiatives could create new avenues for trade, attract investment, and strengthen overall economic collaboration between China and Europe.
