The 15-day China-Pakistan International Training Workshop on Modern Agricultural Water-Saving Irrigation Technology concluded in Islamabad, marking another step toward strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
The program trained 23 Pakistani professionals from agricultural departments, universities, and research institutions. Experts from China shared advanced irrigation methods, management practices, and development models aimed at boosting high-efficiency agriculture.
Sponsored by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and organised by Xinjiang Tianye Water Saving Irrigation System Co. Ltd., the workshop was co-hosted by PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi. Sessions focused on modern water-saving irrigation principles, system design, installation, integrated water-fertiliser techniques, and efficient crop cultivation methods.
Participants also received hands-on training at the China-Pakistan High-Efficiency Water-Saving Technology Laboratory and Demonstration Base, where they operated state-of-the-art irrigation equipment.
Highlighting the urgency of the initiative, experts noted that Pakistan, as an agricultural economy, uses more than 90% of its water resources for farming. With rising population pressures and climate change, improving water-use efficiency has become vital for food security and sustainable growth.
Since 2004, Tianye Water Saving has collaborated with Pakistan on research, demonstrations, and training, with successful results in cotton, vegetable, and flower cultivation. The workshop reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen agricultural productivity through technological cooperation.
