China has expressed its support for the latest progress in relations between Russia and the Afghan interim government, according to a statement made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Friday.
Responding to a media question about Russia’s formal recognition of the Afghan interim government, Mao emphasized China’s consistent position as a traditional friend and close neighbor of Afghanistan.
She reiterated that China believes Afghanistan should not be isolated from the international community and supports increased engagement and dialogue between global actors and the Afghan interim government.
China also encourages the Afghan authorities to respond to international concerns, advance national reconstruction and development, and enhance counterterrorism efforts, which would contribute positively to regional peace and stability.
Mao noted that despite changes in Afghanistan’s internal and external circumstances, China has maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations with the country.
She further highlighted that since the formation of the interim government, both sides have cooperated in ensuring the smooth functioning of diplomatic missions and strengthening bilateral relations.
Mao concluded by reaffirming China’s commitment to a friendly foreign policy toward the Afghan people and its readiness to promote exchanges and cooperation across various sectors.
