China’s largest oil and gas field, Changqing Oilfield, produced 51.42 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year its output exceeded 50 billion cubic meters, according to China National Petroleum Corp.
Located in the Ordos Basin, the field increased production through technological upgrades in existing wells and the commissioning of new gas wells. Indigenous innovation has enabled the development of tight reservoirs, making Changqing a strategic backbone of China’s onshore gas supply.
Experts say sustained high output from Changqing Oilfield strengthens China’s natural gas self-sufficiency, supports energy transition and ensures stable winter supplies, while contributing to emissions reduction and national energy security.
