The government has finalized the Made In Pakistan electronics manufacturing policy to promote local production and reduce dependence on imported finished electronic goods, according to official documents.
Under the policy, Pakistan will locally manufacture mobile phones, laptops, tablets, computers and other electronic products including POS machines, biometric systems, smartwatches and tracking devices. The initiative aims to strengthen the industrial base and improve data security.
To discourage imports, the government has proposed levies ranging from 1 to 5 percent on imported devices, while offering tax exemptions on raw materials for local manufacturing. Officials believe the policy will create jobs, lower prices and save foreign exchange in the long term.
