China has expressed support for the newly signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, adding a significant regional dimension to the pact.

The agreement was signed in Makkah on August 7 by the three countries. It establishes closer defence cooperation and states that an armed attack against one member will be treated as an attack against all three.

China Supports Regional Cooperation

China’s position comes as the agreement gains attention across the region. Beijing has maintained close strategic relations with Pakistan and has also expanded economic and diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

Moreover, China has consistently emphasized dialogue, regional stability and cooperation as key elements of its approach to Middle Eastern security.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Deepen Defence Ties

The Makkah agreement brings together three major Muslim-majority countries with significant political, economic and military influence.

For Pakistan, the pact further strengthens its longstanding defence relationship with Saudi Arabia. At the same time, cooperation with Türkiye provides another avenue for defence and security coordination.

The agreement also calls for greater coordination among the three countries on defence-related matters.

Regional Security in Focus

The pact comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East and growing concerns about regional security.

Therefore, the agreement has attracted considerable international attention. Analysts are assessing how the new framework could influence security calculations across the Gulf, South Asia and the wider Middle East.

China-Pakistan Strategic Partnership

China’s support also comes against the backdrop of its longstanding strategic partnership with Pakistan.

Beijing remains a major economic and defence partner of Islamabad. The two countries continue to cooperate through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and broader defence and security arrangements.

Furthermore, China has developed increasingly close economic relations with Saudi Arabia. This creates potential space for broader cooperation involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and China.

A New Regional Security Dynamic

The Makkah Defence Agreement could mark a new phase in security cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

China’s supportive position adds further diplomatic weight to the development. However, the practical impact of the agreement will depend on how the three signatories implement their defence commitments and coordinate their policies in response to future regional challenges.
