China Adds 55,000 AI Firms in 2026

China registered a sharp rise in emerging technology businesses during the first half of 2026.

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, 55,000 generative AI firms and 116,000 humanoid robot companies were newly registered during the period.

The figures highlight growing business activity in advanced technology sectors. They also show China’s efforts to develop new drivers of economic growth.

AI and Robotics See Rapid Expansion

Generative AI attracted thousands of new businesses in the first six months of 2026.

At the same time, the humanoid robotics sector recorded even stronger growth. More than 116,000 companies entered the sector during the period.

This expansion reflects rising interest in artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies.

Traditional Tech Sectors See Company Exits

Meanwhile, some established technology industries experienced an orderly exit of companies.

The regulator reported that 7,632 new energy vehicle-related firms were deregistered in the first half of 2026.

Similarly, 5,089 photovoltaic companies and 155 lithium battery firms exited the market.

However, the changes do not necessarily indicate a decline in these industries. Instead, they point to adjustments as businesses respond to changing market conditions and competition.

High-Tech Manufacturing Continues to Grow

China’s high-tech manufacturing sector also expanded during the period.

By June, the sector had reached around 330,000 enterprises. Several advanced manufacturing industries recorded significant growth.

These included spacecraft manufacturing, optical fiber production, and integrated circuit manufacturing.

Moreover, the expansion shows the increasing role of advanced manufacturing in China’s industrial development.

Emerging Industries Become New Growth Drivers

The latest figures indicate a broader shift in China’s business landscape.

While some companies are leaving mature sectors, new businesses are entering areas such as AI and humanoid robotics.

Furthermore, growth in high-tech manufacturing is creating additional opportunities for innovation and investment.

China’s expanding technology ecosystem could therefore play an increasingly important role in driving future economic growth.
