The federal government has allocated more than Rs14.2 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2026–27 for development projects linked to Gwadar.
Road Connectivity Receives Major Share
Road infrastructure received the largest share of funding. In particular, the government allocated Rs6.5 billion for the Hoshab–Awaran–Khuzdar sections of the M-8 corridor.
In addition, authorities set aside Rs1 billion for the Gwadar–Ratodero Road Project to strengthen transport links between Gwadar and the rest of the country.
Airport and Rail Connectivity Continue
The programme also allocates Rs2.55 billion for the New Gwadar International Airport. Meanwhile, the government earmarked Rs400 million for land acquisition to support future rail connectivity from Gwadar through Besima to Jacobabad.
Consequently, the allocation signals continued progress toward integrating Gwadar into Pakistan’s broader transport network.
Port and Maritime Infrastructure Remain a Priority
Furthermore, PSDP includes funding for several maritime and port-related initiatives. These include land acquisition under the Gwadar Master Plan, the Off-Dock Terminal, East Bay Expressway Phase-II and the Project Management Cell for the proposed Gwadar Shipyard.
As a result, the government continues to strengthen logistics and port support infrastructure.
Urban Services and Social Development Included
Alongside transport projects, the programme supports municipal development in Gwadar. Funding covers sanitation services, landfill development, rehabilitation of Old Town Gwadar, water supply and treatment facilities, and the Gwadar Safe City Project.
Moreover, additional allocations support the Shehzanik Dam, Model Customs Collectorate Gwadar, Oceanographic Research Sub-Station, University of Gwadar and scholarships for Gwadar students through the Higher Education Commission.
Focus on Long-Term Regional Integration
Overall, the PSDP 2026–27 framework reflects continued emphasis on connectivity, urban infrastructure and long-term economic development centered around Gwadar.
