Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Cheng Li-wun in Beijing on Friday morning.
The visit marks the first time in a decade that a KMT chairperson has led a delegation to mainland China. The delegation previously visited Jiangsu Province and Shanghai before arriving in Beijing.
Xi said the meeting holds significant importance for relations between the CPC and the Kuomintang, as well as for cross-strait ties. He emphasized that broader historical trends toward national rejuvenation and closer connections across the Taiwan Strait will continue regardless of global or regional changes.
He added that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait desire peace, stability, and improved livelihoods, describing it as a shared responsibility for both parties to support dialogue and cooperation.
