The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has awarded 98 undergraduate scholarships to students from Balochistan’s coastal regions. The initiative aims to improve access to higher education and prepare youth for opportunities linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the selection process for additional students is still ongoing.
The programme, titled Coastal Region Higher Education Scholarships for Undergraduate Programmes, was launched in 2022–23 under the Government’s Southern Balochistan Development Package. It targets students from Gwadar, Lasbela, Kech (Turbat), and Awaran districts.
The HEC aims to sponsor 200 students for BS degrees in recognised universities across Pakistan. So far, 98 scholarships have been awarded across three batches.
More than 800 students have applied for the fourth batch, showing strong interest among coastal youth. The programme covers all academic fields and particularly supports underprivileged and female students by expanding access to higher education.
