Pakistan has launched a historic 5G spectrum auction, marking a major step in the country’s digital transformation. The auction aims to improve digital connectivity, strengthen the economy, and upgrade existing 4G networks while introducing 5G services in Islamabad and provincial capitals within 5–6 months.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said fast, reliable, and affordable internet is now a basic need for citizens and plays a crucial role in sectors like agriculture, industry, and national security. The government has also removed Right-of-Way charges for telecom infrastructure to accelerate fiber network expansion across the country.
The auction framework received positive feedback internationally, including at the Mobile World Congress. PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman described 5G as a “digital highway” and emphasized the new technological era it would bring, especially in remote areas. Telecom operators are now expected to actively participate, helping Pakistan move toward a more connected and digital future.
