Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China are strengthening regional sports cooperation through cricket activities in Hangzhou.
The initiative will begin on May 14 and will feature friendly matches, coaching sessions, and youth training programs aimed at promoting cricket in China.
Afghan and Pakistani Players Join Activities
An Afghan cricket delegation has already arrived in Hangzhou for the sports exchange program. The delegation includes coach Nawroz Mangal and several national players.
Meanwhile, six Pakistani national players are also expected to participate in the upcoming cricket activities alongside Chinese and Afghan athletes.
Organizers said the initiative will encourage people-to-people exchanges and strengthen regional sports partnerships.
Cricket Gains Attention in China
Although football and basketball remain highly popular in China, cricket has steadily expanded over the past two decades.
China introduced men’s and women’s cricket teams during the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, marking an important milestone for the sport in the country.
Pakistan Supports Cricket Development in China
Pakistan has played an important role in supporting cricket growth in China through coaching, technical assistance, and grassroots programs.
Chinese cricket authorities have regularly worked with Pakistani experts because of Pakistan’s strong cricket structure and international experience.
Sports officials believe Chinese players can benefit from Pakistan’s coaching methods and cricket culture.
Focus on Sports Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange
The Hangzhou program will include exhibition matches, coaching clinics, technical workshops, and youth engagement activities.
Observers say the initiative highlights the growing role of sports diplomacy in strengthening cooperation between China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan while helping expand cricket’s popularity in China.
