Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached their highest point in years as fierce border clashes and airstrikes continue to claim lives on both sides.
Security officials said the Pakistan Army carried out precision strikes on key Afghan Taliban positions in Kandahar province, destroying Battalion No. 4 and Border Brigade No. 6. The operation killed dozens of Taliban and foreign fighters, marking one of the most intense escalations since the Taliban seized power in 2021.
At the same time, Pakistani troops foiled an infiltration attempt along the Turkmenzai border in Mohmand district. Militants tried to enter Pakistan to launch attacks but were neutralised in a swift and forceful response that killed at least 30 of them.
The military reaffirmed its full readiness to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, warning that any future aggression from across the border would face a “decisive response.”
The recent violence followed days of heavy fighting in Chaman, Kurram, and Spin Boldak. Over 23 Pakistani soldiers were martyred, while more than 200 Taliban fighters were killed after a series of unprovoked cross-border attacks.
Diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate the conflict. China has offered to mediate and urged both sides to safeguard regional stability. However, sporadic exchanges of fire continue, keeping tensions high.
The latest hostilities erupted soon after Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s controversial visit to India. His remarks describing Kashmir as part of India drew strong condemnation from Islamabad.
Pakistan says it seeks peace but will not tolerate cross-border terrorism or the use of Afghan soil by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
